Product Review: Face Canvas Moisture Glider and Make-up Base (Leyende Bath and Body)

I have to be up-front about this: I have been using Face Canvas for the last 6 months, and I love it–and my skin loves it, too.

Face Canvas is one of the products of Leyende Bath & Body–owned and founded by Neva Talladen, whom I know from college. What’s so great about Leyende is not only is it Philippine-made, it’s also proud to make products that use all organic ingredients.

(You may be wondering, what’s all the fuss about “organic”? And what’s the difference between “organic” and “natural”–aren’t they the same thing? The simplest  way to make the distinction is: “natural” simply means that something is derived from nature; while the term organic refers to plants and their by-products that are grown without contact with industrial pesticides, chemical fertilizers, growth hormones, antibiotics, and other harsh chemical treatments.)

In Face Canvas, this lack of harsh chemicals results in a creamy moisturizer that provides the right amount of moisture and protection, without feeling heavy or thick. The texture is light, almost mousse-like. The scent is very mild–it smells faintly of pineapple, mango, with a hint of milk or coconut milk.

I decided to try it last year because I had already grown out of my old moisturizer (I was using the same brand since high school) and my skin is quite picky–it’s oily but sensitive, so I need a good balance between tough and gentle. On the other hand, I’m not a very kikay person AT ALL. I’m generally lazy when it comes to skin care, so the more uses a product has, the better–so the dual-purpose of Face Canvas (it doubles as a clear, matte make-up base, for people like me who hate foundation, and hate make-up in general, and will just wear make-up when its absolutely necessary).

The results, as I’ve hinted at above, are fantastic. I get through the day–even during the height of the summer heat–without my face getting too dry or too oily. It is a bit pricey–one 100g jar costs Php450, but since the jar lasts me about 4-5 months, I find it’s worth it. In one product, I have a moisturizer, oil-control product, and make-up base. Perfect for the lazy person like me.

Pros: Really effective. Multi-purpose. Quality. All-organic ingredients, with no chemical ingredients at all. Smells great–mild but refreshing. 

Cons: Is there any? Well…it’s a bit expensive, but compared to similar products made abroad, it’s cheap.
